Mark Ram
President & Chief Executive Officer

Mark Ram is the President & Chief Executive Officer of Northbridge Financial Corporation, Canada's largest commercial insurance group, listed under the symbol NB on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Prior to Northbridge, Mark served from 1994 to 2005 as President and CEO of Markel Insurance Company of Canada. Under Mark’s leadership, Markel grew tenfold, from a small, unprofitable insurer, into Canada’s largest trucking insurance company. Today Markel is widely considered one of the most innovative insurers in North America.

During the late 1980s, Mark worked with investment dealer Geoffrion Leclerc. From there, he moved to Fairfax Financial, where he was involved in acquisitions, commercial ventures and general management.

Mark has also been active in the children’s charitable community, having sat on the Hospital for Sick Children’s Development Council. Under his leadership, Markel funded and established the Markel Fellowship in Cancer Research at the hospital.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill University as well as a Master of Business Administration degree from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

In 2002, Mark was named as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40™. This prestigious award is bestowed annually upon Canada’s top 40 individuals under the age of 40, who are set apart by their outstanding achievements in leadership, innovation, community service and vision. Mark was the first individual in the property and casualty insurance industry to win this award since its inception. 

In 2004, Business Insurance, the leading U.S. insurance publication, named Mark to their list of 40 Under 40 Worldwide People to Watch. Mark was the only Canadian-based executive on the list.
